And we perceive precisely the infinitely complex, integral form, which is essentially connected with the phenomenon. In literature and music the form is a kind of reality. We enter into that sphere of ideas which marked the end of the medieval world-understanding—Plato, Aristotle. The philosophy of the Renaissance began with the destruction of form as a real principle. This philosophy wished to nullify form, fragmenting the whole into parts, but instead it affirmed form as a 6. Three lines are missing from Florensky’s manuscript.

There are families which, from generation to generation, produced saints, scientists, musicians. All of history is woven from a few family fabrics, which war against one another; consider the antagonism between the Mon-tagues and the Capulets. There are families composed of saints, kings, statesmen, scientists, artists, musicians, and so on. All of history is woven from such family fabrics. The biological task of the Old Testament was to separate out pure genes, a holy seed. If genes of sin were mixed into man’s nature when he fell, in the first generation they were split into Cainites and the descendants of Abel.

If an organism is a metaphysical form and not just the periphery of our body, then the form permeates every particle; and since the form is individual, it follows that every particle, too, is necessarily individual and personal. Every body is thoroughly individual and, as the study of tissues shows, every part of the body is permeated with individuality, even such parts as, for example, the mammary glands, and the sexual organs, too, are histologically individual. This makes it easier to understand the idea of the resurrection of the body.
