Oliver St. John Gogarty reports Joyce carrying the poems with him through Dublin written on a “roll of vellum” and tied with a string (Gogarty 41). In 1909, during his trip to Dublin, Joyce made a parchment copy of the poems for Nora, and in early 1919 he sent a copy of the poems to Martha Fleischmann (JJII 305, 308, 451).
