It seems to me that the first step to backsliding or growing lukewarm is the loss of joy. The next step, just before slipping back into deep sin, could be losing your spirit of thanksgiving. Romans 1:21 says: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imagination, and their foolish heart was darkened. I have never seen a Christian backslide who always was full of joy and thankfulness. These two beautiful qualities seem to go together.
We are to command lame people to walk in His name. ) 2. We are to speak boldly in His name. ) 3. We are to speak peace by His name. ) 4. We may be called on to hazard our lives for His name. ) 5. We are to preach repentance toward God and faith to our Lord Jesus in His name. ) 6. We are to confess His name. (Rom. ) 7. We are to call upon His name. (1 Cor. ) 8. We are to give thanks in His name. (Eph. ) 9. We are to do all things in His name. (Col. ) And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
Without understanding, we cannot act with that authority. There will be other prayers addressed to Him for specific things, but not for moving a mountain. Be certain to read all the rules for all the different types of prayer. Our words carry much more authority than we realize. If we really did believe we could have mountain-moving words flowing out of our lips, I am sure we would be more careful about the words we speak—especially of the words that contribute to the building of mountains. When the disciples saw what happened to the fig tree, they must have desired to have like faith.
